About Mr. Helmer
I have been in education since 1997. I have degrees in Exceptional Education and Administrative Leadership. During my career, I have taught in Milwaukee Public Schools, Howard - Suamico School District, and in the Plymouth Joint School District. I have also spent one year as the Response to Intervention Coordinator for the Howard - Suamico School District. My experiences have had me working with children with multiple disabilities (SLD, EBD, A, CD, HI, OHI, S/L, and TBI). I have worked as a resource teacher and have co-taught with regular education teachers in the classroom. No matter what a child's needs may be, I try to find ways to improve their progress academically and socially. This has led me to creating materials for students or attending workshops, but it is always worth it! I also believe that to achieve these goals, I need to make connections and develop relationships with my students, and their families. This allows for us to communicate more efficiently and make great progress.
I am originally from Plymouth, Wisconsin and attended college at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. I have a wife and two boys who keep me very busy. I enjoy watching Packer and Badger football games. I am also a huge science fiction fan!! Star Wars is my favorite! My love of science fiction has expanded beyond Star Wars to other themes too. In my spare time, I enjoy cycling, camping, and reading.
